ITV and Channel 4 to launch PS3 services

ITV and Channel 4 to launch PS3 services
13 Dec 10 -

UK commercial broadcaster ITV and public broadcaster Channel 4 are to launch on-demand services for the Sony PlayStation 3 games console this week.

The launch, a first for UK commercial broadcasters, will see the ITV Player and 4oD services made available to PS3 users with a broadband connection. The BBC’s iPlayer service is already available on the Sony games console.

From tomorrow 4oD will have a branded presence on PS3 and Channel 4 will sell the advertising around its content. Programmes including Peep Show, Hollyoaks and Coppers will be available on the platform free-of-charge supported by advertising.

ITV has hitherto restricted the availability of its catch-up TV service to the Virgin Media and BT Vision platforms, with a version for the Freesat platform set to launch soon.

Sony is expected to launch a TV advertising campaign to increase take-up of the PS3’s entertainment services in the New Year.
