tw1Austrian public broadcaster ORF wants to turn its tourism and weather channel TW1 into a culture and information channel. The move is part of the revision of ORF’s public service charter which general director Alexander Wrabetz presented to the board in Vienna.
According to Wrabetz, the new service will be created along the lines of German channels BR-alpha and Phoenix, offering “sophisticated and high-quality contentâ€. The channel, which will equally cover Austrian, European and international issues, will be transmitted on satellite and possibly via DTT as well.
To put the plan into reality, ORF needs approval from the national media regulation authority. Wrabetz expects the launch to take place in 2011.
