News Corporation's Fox International Channels has presented in Madrid the Fox Crime the thematic crime channel, launching Monday, Feb 15 via Sogecable's satellite pay-TV operator Digital+. In the next step the new channel will also be distributed by Telefónica's DSL pay-TV operator Imagenio, probably in spring.
Among the premiers of Fox Crime are highly awarded 'Sons of Anarchy' the most watched cable TV series in the US, the fourth season of 'Dexter', new episodes of 'CSI New York' and 'CSI 'Miami' and a selection of the recent television classics on crime and investigation such as 'The Sopranos', 'Miami Vice' or 'The X Files'.
Fox Crime will broadcast 24 hours a day, seven days a week, addressed to an audience between 18 and 49 years old. The channel's content is made up of a variety of fiction programming, mainly TV series but also some films.
In Europe Fox Crime was first launched in Italy where it's already well consolidated in the satellite pay-TV operator Sky Italia’s offering.
Jesús Pérezagua, Fox International Channels' head of European operations based in the Madrid office said: "We'd like to produce our Spanish fiction but we must be very careful because our international philosophy is to offer and produce high quality contents so when time comes for our local productions we must be very well prepared to meet those quality standards. But we'd very much like to launch our Spanish fictions in the future.
The channel’s distribution has grown quickly worldwide, already surpassing 12 million homes subscribed to it scattered in 66 countries.
Fox Crime comes after last December’s launch of Fox and National Geographic Channels HDTV versions Fox HD and National Geographic Channel HD. The company also offers in the Spanish market the original versions of Fox and National Geographic Channels.
