Internet TV channel officially launched in Azerbaijan
February 23rd, 2010
A new TV channel, Can Azerbaijan (pronounced Jan Azerbaijan), has been officially launched in Baku. Canaz began broadcasting online on 1 February, Turkic specialist Ramiz Asgar told the launch yesterday. The channel aims to promote Azerbaijan around the world, Mr Asgar said.
The manager of Canaz TV, Jamal Mammadkhanoglu, said earlier that he had intended to broadcast via satellite, but found the cost prohibitive. “The cheapest TV channel was one million dollars and we could not afford it. Therefore, we created Internet television first. This is not to make money.â€
Mr Mammadkhanoglu said Canaz TV would not be under the influence of any political party and would allocate equal time to all political forces. The television will mostly broadcast reports about the Turkic world. The manager said they were looking forward to satellite broadcasting in future. Canaz broadcasts for 12-hours per day and plans 24-hour broadcasting in future.
