Sony Pictures Television (SPT) has greenlit its first original series for its international Animax channels, tapping New York's Embassy Row to produce.

In The Qube is described as a half-hour entertainment magazine programme designed for broadcast, web, console and mobile distribution â€" cleared for "every conceivable platform," according to SPT.

It will debut on Animax in several of the 60 countries where the channel currently broadcasts, starting in March. The show will also air on Sci-Fi Channel Australia and on the PlayStation Network in Europe.

Maria Sansone (LX TV New York, TV Guide Channel, PopTub on YouTube) and Tom Hatton (Law & Order: SVU, Life on Mars) are hosts and the target demo is the 14- to 29-year-olds that Animax also aims for.

The channel's content spans movies, video games, music, freestyle sports and the people defining the latest developments in international entertainment.

"In The Qube will reflect contemporary youth culture and lifestyle, highlighting both emerging and popular entertainment, as well as a wide array of lifestyle technologies," said exec producer and Embassy Row president Michael Davies.
