February 25th, 2010
The Kano State government has installed two digital transmitters at the state’s radio station, Radio Kano. The transmitters were purchased at N309 million (US$2 million). This was disclosed on Tuesday by the Managing Director of the state’s radio, Alhaji Ghali Sadik, while addressing newsmen in Kano. Sadik said the transmitters would replace the 28 year old transmitters used by the radio station [on 549 and 729 kHz].
“The transmitters were purchased with a view to meeting the deadline given by the National Broadcasting Commission that all broadcast stations must be digitalized by the year 2012″, he said. He added that they would be fully in use in two weeks. Sadik commended the state governor for his commitment to the development of broadcasting in the state.
The Chairman, Board of Directors of the station, Alhaji Shehu Kura, said the purchase and installation of the digital transmitters was a clear indication that the state was ahead of all other states in complying with the NBC’s directive of digitalizing broadcast media in the country by 2012. He pledged judicious use of the transmitters to adequately inform, educate and entertain the people of the state and beyond.
