Egyptian football channel scores with SGL deal
by Vijaya Cherian on Mar 2, 2010

Software Generation Ltd (SGL) has today announced that Egyptian football club channel Al Ahly TV has installed a FlashBox archive in its new facility at the Egyptian Media Production City near Cairo.

The system was installed by SGL’s partner Systems Design and is part of a complete end-to-end digital broadcast installation.

“FlashBox is a good start-up self-contained archive package that will save the channel time and resources because it removes the requirement for VTRs for ingest. SGL was chosen for its good reputation and its seamless integration to the Harris Nexio servers,” explained Ahmed Gamal, managing director, Systems Design.

Using SGL FlashBox, Al-Ahly TV will archive edited content that can be retrieved at a later date by Harris’s Nexio AMP production and transmission servers. Prior to installing FlashBox, the workflow process was laborious: material was edited on a production server, recorded to videotape and then re-ingested or transferred to the transmission server - depending on available capacity on the servers. When the transmission servers began to reach their capacity, the operator would delete the clip and re-ingest when required. FlashBox significantly improves this workflow. Now when the channel requires a clip it simply retrieves it from the archive.

Bernie Walsh, SGL’s Worldwide sales and joint managing director added: FlashBox provides smaller facilities with a fully integrated HSM archive system, significantly reducing costs and improving workflow procedures.”
