ADMC buys exclusive MENA broadcast rights for F1

Mar 1, 2010

Abu Dhabi Media Company (ADMC) has purchased the exclusive broadcast rights for the MENA region, according to local newspaper reports.

Last year, the company paid an estimated $300 million for the licence to show the next three seasons of the English Premier League football.

“Abu Dhabi is aiming to be the international capital of sport so the media has to follow this growth,” said Mohammed Najeeb, the head of Abu Dhabi Al Riyadiya Channels â€" ADMC’s sports broadcasting department.

“Formula One is a very important sport. A lot of people love to watch it and after building the Yas Marina Circuit, we definitely have to follow the growth of this particular sport,” added Najeeb.

Bahrain TV had previously held the rights to the competition. The switch means that ADMC and Al Jazeera Sport now own all the premium international sports broadcast rights in the Middle East with the exception of the Summer Olympic Games.
