Nagra Kudelski and EchoStar-backed Dish Network have agreed to a fresh 10-year contract.

The deal is important for Dish and its 14m subscribers, and extends the existing agreement by a further 10 years. The agreement further ends any prospects for Kudelski’s rivals, notably News Corp-backed NDS, from getting a foot in the door at Dish’s Colorado headquarters.

Dish has just completed migrating its subscribers to Nagravision’s (the name for the Kudelski/Dish j-v) latest-generation smart card decoding system.

“The new ten year agreement with Nagravision and NagraStar aligns Dish Network's and Nagravision's interests to optimize the resilience of Dish Network's security solutions, including the deployment of next generation security smart cards in addition to a broader scope of signal protection covering traditional and emerging piracy threats,” said a statement.
