TV Caracol TDT for PPV

Over the course of Andinalink 2010 TDTV Forum, the Colombian Caracol Televisión's Technical Director, Yesid Guerra, stated that his company expected that Pay Per View (PPV) should serve as the basis for the new digital TV business model. Eladio Gutiérrez, from RTVE (Spain) recommended Colombian broadcasters not to invest in DVB-T interactivity and the Director of the National Television Commission, Andrés Carreño, stated that new mobile interactivity incomes were to be recorded.

Guerra assured that digitalization would be more profitable thanks to PPV "if regulators allowed it so". Carreño stated that there were great opportunities in portable DVB-T and mobile DVB-H interactivity since the return channel is given by telephones. "We have to learn from Japanese and Korean models, which were mobile TV developers", he pointed out.

Gutiérrez, Director of Spanish Digital Radio and Television and President of ImpulsaTDT, stated that "interactivity was a waste" and that it was not worth producing interactive contents for 50,000 people out of the 40 million Colombians who watch TV. According to Gutiérrez, the model imposed for interactivity is a hybris system with IP access that is being fitted in the new home TV receivers.
