Indonesian telco MKN orders interactive shopping platform
02.03.10

Zum Indonesian telco Multi Kontrol Nusantara (MKN) has signed an agreement with Hong Kong-based firm BSN for the latter to deploy an interactive on-demand shopping platform on the telco's HD-capable IPTV service.

MKN will offer the new on-demand shopping service through its subsidiary Graha Multimedia Nusantara (GMN), which operates the IPTV service called 'Zum*', targeting primarily high-end residential complexes and multi-dwelling units in Jakarta and other influential areas. The IPTV service is delivered over a fibre-based platform and offers convergent services including multicast, VOD, network PVR, time-shift TV, telephony, Internet and gaming.

The new on-demand shopping service comprises a paper catalogue printed with invisible dot codes and a wireless pen-like device called 'The Wiz' that reads the codes and connects wirelessly to the set-top box. Customers can browse and tap with The Wiz to make a hassle-free purchase via their TV, without calling an operator.

BNS reports that it is also integrating the on-demand shopping service for Taiwanese telco Chunghwa Telecom's IPTV service 'Multimedia on Demand', and is in advanced discussions with two other Asian IPTV operators to develop and launch similar services.
