The giant Skyworth steps in Latin America

The Chinese leading electronics manufacturer Skyworth, which stepped with its STBs line in the region in 2009, closed its first agreements with operators Cable Hogar (Venezuela), Cable Sula (Honduras), Cable Centro (Ecuador) and Orbit Cable (Dominican Republic), while hoping to do business with Telefónica and Telmex with the purpose of repeating its leading position in the Chinese and Indian markets which demand 4,5 million STBs on an annual basis.

Skyworth supplies Tata Sky (DTH), Hathaway (cable) and Airtel (DTH), the three Pay-TV leading companies of India, in addition to Digicable. The four companies together demand Skyworth a million STBs annually. In China, Skyworth is the top manufacturer of home LCDs (16.2% of the market) and STBs for the cable market, which is provided with 3,5 million units annually.

With headquarters in the city of Shenzen, Skyworth became famous as a TV sets supplier. In China the company has a leading position followed closely by Hisense, TCL, Konka and Changhong, the five biggest suppliers. During the last months, the company has strengthened its position thanks to a strong Chinese governmental program that offered rural sectors subsidy for the replacement of their old TV sets for new devices, and such actions triggered Hong Kong stock market. The 84% of its incomes stem from the sale of TV sets in the local market, the 6.5% account for such devices exports, and the sale of digital STBs has already reached a third position with the company's 8.2% of incomes, following Pay-TV growth in China.
