Mouse brings Marvel characters to XD

Disney has unveiled its 2010/11 programming highlights, which include a new series for boys-skewing channel Disney XD featuring Marvel superheroes.

The Mouse announced programming for Disney Channel and Disney XD in New York this week.

Disney Channel has scheduled a TV movie based on its flagship series Phineas and Ferb. Phineas and Ferb: Across the Second Dimension will premiere in summer 2011. The franchise has already expanded into theme parks, merchandise and amusement parks.

Disney's theatrical division also unveiled Prom, which is said to be in the spirit of High School Musical.

On the series side, Disney Channel unveiled animated show Fish Hooks about high school life from the perspective of three fish. The series, scheduled to premiere in fall, was created by children's book illustrator Noah Jones, who exec produces with Adam Burton.

Pair of Kings and The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes debut on Disney XD. Kings, a live-action series, stars Michael Musso and Doc Shaw as fraternal twins who discover they are successors to the throne of a tropical island.

The Avengers employs a host of Marvel superheroes, after Disney bought Marvel last year for US$4bn, including its Iron Man, Thor, Captain America and the Incredible Hulk properties. The series, which received a 52-episode order, will debut in the fall.
