French broadcasters’ ad revenues inch up

TF1, M6 and Canal+ ‘s gross TV advertising revenues before taxes remained positive in 2009 and went up 3.8% to reach â,¬4.5bn. According to research institute Yacast, those positive results were due to performances mostly achieved over the second half of last year.

TF1 registered a 2.7% rise to reach 3bn, while M6’s ad revenues increased 4.8% to â,¬1.3bn. Canal+’s progression was higher with +15.7% at â,¬153.2m.

France Télévisions networks’ daytime ad revenues amounted to â,¬420.6m. The 31.9% rise of DTT channels ‘s ad revenues is also to be mentioned as the 10 new channels took a 19% share of the media market in terms of ad revenues in 2009 vs 10.7% for cabsat channels. National traditional networks’ share was 70.3%.

Advertisers invested 11.3% more in television advertising last year, pouring â,¬6.6bn in. With France Télévisions included, the investment amounted to â,¬7.05bn.
