Costa Rica will have tour new Pay-TV operators

The Costa Rican Superintendence of Telecommunications authorized four cable operators to operate in the country over a 10-year period. According to national morning papers, the companies complied with the procedure set by law and submitted all economic and technical information by means of which their capacity to render services was demonstrated.

Sources from the Superintendence informed NexTV Latam that Jasec was authorized to render analog CATV and Internet services across the whole national territory and that Telecable Económico is now authorized to offer CATV and Internet in the provinces of San José and Cartago.

On the other hand, the Cooperative of Rural Powering Los Santos has been authorized to render CATV and Internet services in Dota, Tarrazú, León Cortes, Acosta, Mora, Desamparados, Aserrí and Cartago. Cablecentro will be in charge of rendering services in Corredores and Golfito, located in the province of Puntarenas. The greatest operators of the country are Cable Onda and Amnet, who offer digital cable; Sky offers DTH and Ice is expected to enter IPTV business over the course of this semester.
