SES with the rights to the frequency at 28.5 ° E?

Source: DF / spacenews
French satellite operator Eutelsat Communications is surprised by the company's recent announcement of a competitive SES . The Luxembourg company plans from October 2013 to use frequencies at the orbital position 28.5 ° E , currently used by satellite EUTELSAT 28A , which will be working there for at least 2018 years.

After a successful elevation satellites ASTRA 2F (28 September 2012), the operator has announced that from October 2013 the satellite ASTRA 2F and ASTRA 2E and ASTRA 2G will use the frequency at position 28.2 ° E / 28.5 ° E . This announcement caused some confusion due to the fact that the 28.5 ° E satellite is currently EUTELSAT 28A . SES spokesman, Yves Feltes said the message about the use of 28.5 ° E from October 2013 under an agreement signed with the Media Broadcast in 2005, according to which SES has rights to 500 MHz band - the equivalent of 15 transponders - which currently uses Eutelsat. Deutstche Telekom rights to the use of these frequencies, but several years ago moved its operations to the Media Broadcast. SES never informed of his contract in 2005 with Media Broadcast, but apparently Eutelsat in 2011, he was informed that the Media Broadcast lease e$$$ on the satellite EUTELSAT 28A. Eutelsat turned to the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) in Paris to decide or Media Broadcast and Deutsche Telekom have the right to "take" Eutelsat frequency range. Eutelsat spokeswoman Vanessa O'Connor said that Eutelsat was surprised by the announcement SES . Eutelsat is in the process of arbitration with Media Broadcast and Deutsche Telekom frequency at 28.5 ° E and had not yet been dycyzja. Yves Feltes said SES is not a party to the ICC arbitration and does not believe that this would have an impact on the right to the frequency, that obtained through an agreement with Media Broadcast . Feltes said SES has "secured the rights to the 500 MHz band", used now by satellite EUTELSAT 28A, from October 2013 . These rights, he said, will be performed pośrednictwme SES satellites, rather than by leasing from Eutelsat.

Januar 2013 on Air gehen.

Spanish Government to allocate â,¬10 million for ‘digital dividend’

Iñaki Ferreras | 11-10-2012

Spain’s Secretary of State for Information Society (SETSI), Victor Calvo Sotelo, has revealed that it will allocate â,¬10 million within the State Budget (PGE) for the transition of DTT for the advancement of the 4G 'digital dividend'.

The Government had originally allocated â,¬40 million for the dividend and will devote the remainder of this amount to items that are more productive, such as supporting young entrepreneurs.

"The plan of the digital dividend is an obligation imposed on us by the European Union. With the programme of the previous government we would have paid â,¬900 million, according to our accounts, it has now been reduced to â,¬300 million," Calvo Sotelo said responding to a question from the Socialist deputy, María González Veracruz. To Calvo Sotelo this plan is "simple", which will cost less for each building affected and which will produce less transfers, taking into account the changes necessary for a second digital dividend in the future.

The previous government had pledged to fully assume retuning spending so users would not have to bear the cost, however, the current Executive has indicated that this money has gone to cover other expenses and viewers will have to take the hit. Calvo Sotelo pointed out that what matters is not so much who is going to pay but the amount to be contributed by all for the plan.

laSexta’s merger will not alter editorial line

Iñaki Ferreras | 11-10-2012

With this merger, “laSexta is deepening, widening and being stronger at that point of irreverence, creative television today deepens and strengthens its editorial line," said the journalist, who also leads the debate on space Red-hot political news.

"The editorial is unquestionable: to be critical, to analyse what is happening and why they change the rules for citizens, and think about the citizens who vote and those who do not vote," he reiterated. Exclusive: ZDF supports transition to DVB-T2

Jörn Krieger | 11-10-2012

German public broadcaster ZDF has pronounced itself in favour of a transition to the new transmission standard DVB-T2 on digital terrestrial television (DTT).

The target would be to transfer to the successor of the currently used DVB-T system in a consumer-friendly way through a simulcast period, a ZDF spokeswoman told Rapid TV News.

At the same time she stressed the significance terrestrial broadcasting holds for ZDF as a transmission method. The current usage figures published in the media authorities' "digitalisation report 2012“ would show that DTT was a solid player in the competition of transmission infrastructures and has even managed to slightly grow in the past year. In urban areas, more than 25% of households have chosen this reception method with the figure including second and third TV sets in a household, DVB-T sticks and other small reception devices.

"For viewers, DTT reception is free-of-charge and usable without huge installation effort. The portable and mobile reception of linear TV content is a unique feature of terrestrial broadcasting, this can't be realised with any other reception technology," the spokeswoman explained.

"Terrestrial broadcasting is also largely independent of access providers, it is a transport model without a platform operator. This guarantees viewers direct, unrestricted and unfiltered reception without influence by third parties. It is therefore a textbook example of an unencrypted and non-discriminatory reception method," she stressed.

"For these reasons alone it is important to stick with terrestrial broadcasting and develop it in a sustainable and competitive way by using new technological achievements, this is also supported by ZDF." From a technological view, ZDF considers the frequency need for DVB-T2 to be just as high as currently for DVB-T2 in the medium and long term, said the spokeswoman. Though, during the simulcast stage - the dual transmission in DVB-T and DVB-T2 - the frequency demand could be higher in some regions for a short period of time.

ZDF has participated in the DVB-T2 trial in northern Germany to get familiar with the system's possibilities and variations in detail, explained the spokeswoman: "We now know, for example, that DVB-T offers the possibility in conjunction with new coding algorithms to transmit all channels of the ZDF family without time-sharing in a single multiplex and that cost savings can be achieved in broadcasting compared with DVB-T."

Germany has made no official decision yet on a possible DVB-T2 deployment. The successor of the currently used DVB-T standard enables more channels and HDTV services on terrestrial airwaves, but viewers need new reception devices.

Public broadcaster ARD recently indicated that it would generally be open towards a transition to DVB-T2. The commercial broadcasters would also consider this move, but only under the condition that it would lead to cost savings .
