Astra 3B will have three volumes. Details of the new satellite

SES Astra, a leading European provider of fleet under the name Astra satellites, planned for Central Europe (including the Czech Republic and Slovakia), Eastern and Southeastern Europe and the Benelux countries, a new telecommunications satellite Astra 3B. The new space will be delivered the 24th device March 2010 (estimated date) from the Kourou space center in French Guiana.

New satellite to satellite operator SES Astra supplied by EADS Astrium and will bring a significant boost orbital position 23.5 degrees East.

Transponders Astra 3B
Astra 3B will be a total of 60 transponders in Ku band. Transponders will operate in the frequency range from 11.45 to 12.75 GHz in the following frequency plan:

11.45 to 11.70 GHz (12 transponders, band B)
11.70 to 12.10 GHz (20 transponders, band E)
12.10 to 12.50 GHz (20 transponders, band F)
12.50 to 12.75 GHz (12 transponders, band G)

The above zones are established indication of SES Astra 19.2 ° E and the original satellites, which created one of the most popular orbital positions in Europe. Especially in the west.

In addition to Ku-band capacity will have 4 new satellite transponders in Ka band for bidirectional transmission of data:

21.40 to 22.00 GHz (4 transponders)

Creating a backup capacity on 23.5°E
Astra boasts that the Astra 3B will expected spare capacity in the event that any of the transponders for technical reasons, to stop working. Thanks to this remarkable address, and location of multiple satellites on one position is ensured continuous operation. The viewer is no failure to register. The operation takes second satellite Astra (often) without changing the frequency.

More Astra satellites at 23.5°E
At 23.5 ° E currently consists of three Astra satellites. Oldest Astra 1E, the Astra Astra 1G and 3A. The new satellite will replace Astra 3B "full one" satellites - that is, and Astra 1E Astra 1G. At 23.5 ° E will continue to serve Astra Astra 3A and 3B.

Frequencies programs for the exchange of satellites will not change. With the exception of Czech music and lifestyle TV Ocko, which must move to a new frequency. The existing downlink frequency is not in the frequency plan or Astra 3A and neither new Astra 3B (see list above). Change the frequency awaiting TH HD.

Coverage satellite Astra 3B
The biggest surprise of SES Astra has let to the end - and to cover the Astra 3B satellite. Satellites will have "only" two volumes cover but equal three. For viewers in the Czech Republic and Slovak Republic are the most important of which two - European and pan. The third volume will be directed to the Middle East.

The volume Astra 3B distantly, the footprint Astra 3A. Just a little wider and more directed to Central Europe. In the main zone is the entire territory of the Czech Republic, Slovakia, but also Germany, Benelux, Switzerland, northern Italy, Austria, Hungary and Poland as well. To receive these countries will be sufficient parabola with a diameter of 60 cm.

Not cover the anticipated signal from the Astra 3B parabolic available with smaller dimensions, for example in Ireland, Spain, Portugal, Greece and Cyprus.

The union may use the domestic platform CS Link and Skylink. No problem covers the two countries for which the services are intended - the Czech Republic and Slovakia. Information but not yet confirmed.

Pan-European union, as its name suggests, covers most of Europe (inc. Canary Islands). Revenue will be sufficient for 60 cm parabola. The parabolic larger sizes can be tune the broadcast in North Africa and the Middle East.

This volume is mainly used for broadcasting channels across Europe (station broadcasting to foreign countries etc..). Volume and hence expand coverage may benefit from our domestic platform.

The third chart provides coverage of spot beam - the beam for the Middle East. 23.5 degrees East will open the new SES Astra opportunities for further expansion. Satellite operator can compete with the nearby position of 26°E satellite operator Arabs. For this region can work up to 12 transponders. To receive the main zone will be needed parabola with a diameter of about 80 cm.
