Universal Channel tests local Russia content

Universal Networks International (UNI) is adding local programming to its channel line-up in Russia for the first time as part of a revamp that also extends to the Baltics, CIS and Poland.

Universal Channel will premiere Russian hit movies Lovey Dovey and Lovey Dovey 2, starring Gosha Kutsenko and Kristina Obrakayte, as part of a refresh that started yesterday.

New Universal Channel idents have also been introduced in the Baltics, CIS and Poland, with Romania set to follow suit next week.

The addition of localised programming on the Russian Universal Channel signals the firm's commitment to invest more in this area, UNI said. The line-up otherwise skews heavily US, with shows including Nurse Jackie, CSI: Miami and upcoming E1 Entertainment original series Rookie Blue.
