Pub landlord wins satellite TV appeal

There have been plenty of cases where publicans and bar owners have been fined for showing foreign satellite TV in the bar for the benefit of their customers, but it seems that there could be a bite back occurring as a landlord appeals his case.

Alan Percy, the licensee of the Ridge Farm Pub and Restaurant in Bedlington, Northumberland, was convicted for showing live football matches using a non EU ART card, following an investigation by Media Protection Services (MPS).

But now the conviction handed out by Newcastle Magistrates Court has been quashed.

The appeal was based on the fact that the landlord did not knowingly act dishonestly and therefore could not be found guilty of anything.

According to the Premier League, this case does not mean that the use of foreign satellite equipment is accepted.
