DM500 needs an unpacked image for network boot
« on: August 09, 2010, 10:37:28 PM »
Hi,
I'm looking for an unpacked DM500 image (including both the cramfs and squashfs parts) so that I can netboot a DM500 that I recently picked up on ebay -- it's probably a clone. It's been provided with a running image that's foobar'd in a number of ways including no tempfs on /tmp and no success when manually attempting to create same (preventing me from upload new image and/or using dreamup). If anyone has a set of unpacked files from any working DM500 image to share I would really appreciate a download link.
Thanks

Thanks I'll give that a shot if I can't get there using the soft option. My prob is I can't unpack the (byteswapped) DM500 images as I only have this one box with a PPC CPU. I can mount a remote NFS volume on it with the seperated cram/squash fs on from an Intel Linux box but the box hangs when I try to pick up a loop to mount the images. Anyone help me with an unpacked image?

Thanks again for the pointer -- I've travelled down that particular road alone...as per original post my /tmp is not a partition of type tempfs (ramfs) and I cannot create it manually using mount and appropriate params, this means I'm limited to about 1.5M in root and /tmp is a real folder in root (the free space shadowed out of the flashrom) which isn't enough room to copy an image into (i.e. physically onto the box) hence my seeking an unpacked and hopefully un-fu'd image which I can boot from over NFS. In case it's not clear I can telnet into the DM after booting and have access to the serial boot console, during booting the "GP" logo is displayed and initial device setup follows -- the image on the DM as shipped just doesn't work for me.#
I'm figuring the JTAG mod will rewrite /dev/mtd2, I'm looking to rewrite /dev/mtd0 (the entire flash ROM) and with a good netboot I should just be able to use dreamup for that. Of course I could be a million miles off with this but netboot itself will be non-distructive. I suppose I could always find and build an image from the tuxbox source if necessary but that's a longer job, at least for me.

Unpacked image is hard to find because creating image with other plugins is very hard job from guys who made it, and they will not give you unpacked
just for that reason. It is like looking for unpacked CCcam *31*
