Total Commander 7.5 FINAL for Windows released
There are many new functions.
The most important are:
* Full Unicode support in most functions where it is possible, including FTP,
ZIP packer, and plugin interfaces
* Help file now by default in HTML format (CHM). The old HLP file is still
available online
* Support for file names longer than 259 characters (up to 1022) in most
file operations
* The current directory above the file lists can act as a clickable bar
("breadcrumb bar")
* Protect the stored ftp passwords with a master password using AES256
encryption
* Start Lister, compare by content or synchronize dirs directly via command
line parameters
* Comments (Ctrl+Z) can now have a max. length of 4095 characters, and
support line breaks
* Synchronize dirs: Option to synchronize also empty directories, option to
copy just specific file properties (like the time)
* Allow to use the Windows key for user-defined hotkeys
* On 64-bit Windows, allow to use 64-bit shell extensions in local menu
(context menu)
* Copy files/directories to multiple target directories (or lnk files pointing
to directories) in one operation
* Quick search with search dialog: Show button which allows to show
only files/dirs matching the filter

Total Commander DreamLair 2010.2 the most balanced and workable assembly on the basis of popular file manager Total Commander. Added configuration, plug ins and additional tools, greatly extending the core functionality of the program and ensure optimum performance. Also added a set of programs for viewing and processing of various types of files, as well as for basic computer maintenance.


Building works without having to install, simply unpack the distribution, for plug ins and Virtual Disk Motorola.P2K need to run the file from a folder _Setup32.exe with Total Commander (or file _Setup64.exe for 64 bit Windows, respectively). However, some files are copied to the folder WindowsSystem32.

This is an extended version of Total Commander 7 Copyright © 1993-2007 by Christian Ghisler. Total Commander Ultima Prime is a special distribution of Christian Ghisler’s Total Commander with many useful third-party add-ons, plug-ins and customisations.

It also contains extended main menu and toolbar, other programs, changed layout and other elements.

The newest version brings another installer’s code changes. Since now it is possible to start TC UP with operating system. Because of false alerts provided by antivirus applications, TC UP is installed with safe mode, without any suspicious files. To install whole project’s content users should choose “full installation” mode.

The project has gained WinContig application for deframenting files purpose. Advanced users should be satisfy with excellent log viewer called Tail for Win32. The way of providing additional informations in customized columns has been corrected.

Please do not use it for every day work yet, only for testing! The most important new functions are:

Use MLSD command for file listings in FTP function (better time resolution, time in UTC)
Transfer files between two computers over a special USB cable -> supported cables
Improvements to synchronize dirs function: Compare via plugins and FTP, options to skip hidden files and hard links, SITE UTIME in ftp sync
Compare by content now shows different and changed lines with a slightly different background color (configurable via wincmd.ini)
Unpack directory time stamps from archives
Lister: Increased maximum line length to 1024 characters (Unicode: 512)
Verify CRC checksums: Also support CRC files in UTF16 Unicode format
Show Terminal Server and Win7 XP mode drives in drive dropdown list and drive buttonbar
Ctrl+Shift+B and cm_DirBranchSel shows branch view of only the selected dirs+files
F5 copy dialog: "Options" dialog extension can be pinned now to remain open
Show progress dialog box when reading a directory takes longer than 5 seconds
Create CRC checksums: support subdirectories (recursively), background button
Handle dir space calculation in background (when user presses SPACE or Alt+Shift+Enter)
File system plugins: Support background downloads and uploads (requires changes to plugin)

Total Commander is a file manager for Windows similar to the Windows Explorer. But Total Commander uses a different approach: it has two fixed windows side by side like a well-known file manager for DOS. Total Commander handles archives like subdirectories. It supports ZIP/ARJ/LHA/RAR/UC2/TAR/GZ/CAB/ACE archives, and has an internal ZIP-compatible packer. The search function allows to search for files inside archives, even for text. A command line helps starting programs with parameters, and a fully configurable button bar allows to launch programs and internal commands. The built-in viewer can show files in text, hex, binary, image and multimedia format. The 32 bit version supports Drag&Drop from and to explorer/desktop, delete to the recycle bin, and Explorer style context menus/property sheets. FTP servers on the Internet can be accessed like local drives.

A configurable directory hotlist (bookmarks) and history list make directory navigation easier.

The sync function allows to synchronize two complete directory trees, and the compare function shows the difference of two binary or text files highlighted side by side. The new parallel port connection works between any combination of Windows 95/98/ME, Windows NT 4, Windows 2000/XP, Windows 3.1 and even DOS through a separate server.

Total Commander is now available for download. This version corrects errors which were found only after the release of Total Commander final, mainly in the print function in Lister (for Unicode files), when unpacking certain encrypted zip files, and slow moving of directories within the same drive. We recommend that you install the update as soon as possible.

June 17, 2010: Total Commander 7.55 is now available for download. The most important new functions are:

  * Use MLSD command for file listings in FTP function (better time resolution, time in UTC)
  * Transfer files between two computers over a special USB cable -> supported cables
  * Improvements to synchronize dirs function: Compare via plugins and FTP, options to skip hidden files and hard links, SITE UTIME in ftp sync
  * Compare by content now shows different and changed lines with a slightly different background color (configurable via wincmd.ini)
  * Unpack directory time stamps from archives
  * Lister: Increased maximum line length to 1024 characters (Unicode: 512)
  * Verify CRC checksums: Also support CRC files in UTF16 Unicode format
  * Show Terminal Server and Win7 XP mode drives in drive dropdown list and drive buttonbar
  * Ctrl+Shift+B and cm_DirBranchSel shows branch view of only the selected dirs+files
  * F5 copy dialog: "Options" dialog extension can be pinned now to remain open
  * Show progress dialog box when reading a directory takes longer than 5 seconds
  * Create CRC checksums: support subdirectories (recursively), background button
  * Handle dir space calculation in background (when user presses SPACE or Alt+Shift+Enter)
  * File system plugins: Support background downloads and uploads (requires changes to plugin)
  * Various new background operations: Unpack: RAR, TAR, packer plugins (needs modification), Pack: TAR, packer plugins
