BBC to cut back on programming

The BBC’s broadcast schedules are already heavily supported by repeats, or ‘another chance to see’. There’s going to be more repeats, if Jana Bennett, BBC Vision’s head, has her way.

Ms Bennett has responsibility for all of the BBC’s video output, as well as in-house production.

Bennett has reportedly told many television suppliers that more effort must be made on programming quality, which will cost money, thus there will be a need for cut-backs on the amount available for other fresh material.

The reports come amidst a strategic review currently underway at the BBC, and at the same time considerable public interest in the amount of BBC cash (£229m) being spent on on-screen talent and the BBC’s own internal expenses.
