Howto flash Kathrein

1. Unzip the files of the firmware to local HD.
2. Format a USB pendrive with fat32 (or fat16)
3. Make a folder named kathrein on the usb pendrive.
4. Make a folder named ufs910 in the kathrein folder.
5. Copy the part of firmware you would like to flash to the USB pendrive.
(exs: xxxx_app.img - application
xxxx_ker.img - kernel....)
6. Turn off the Kathrein with the power switch on the back.
7. Plugg in the usb penndrive in one of the usb ports, have had to try different ones.
8. Hold the menu button pushed while you turn on the power.
9. When it says emergency boot release the menu button.
10. The flash should start shortly, showing update.....
11. If the update do not start press the large wheel button on the right side of Kathrein.
12. If notthing happends, no update is showing, turn off the power on the back and try another usb port and go back to 8.
13. The update takes a while be patient.

Why this guide?
To make it easyer for a fresh Kathrein owner to get it up and running the first night.

The howto

1. Prepare your a USB pendrive

* Format it with fat32
* Make a folder kathrein at the root
* Make a folder ufs910 inside this folder.
* Unzip the ru.DBOX to a folder on your hardrive.
* Copy the 5 files to the \kathrein\ufs910 folder.

You by doing this have a fat32 formatet USB penndrive looking like this:

3. Hook up your Kathrein to your nettwork, to a tv.
(I also prefere to hook up with com cable to a computer running HyperTerminal
(Hyper terminal setup is: 115000 / 8 / none / 1 / none)

4. Open the front and push and hold the MENU button whilte turning the power switch on. (Bakside)

5. When Emergencyboot shows in the display you can release the MENU button.

6. Be patient the updte will start shortly if not push the TV/R-Vol button (big wheel on the far right side of the tuner)

7. Sit down, relax and enjoy the box getting updated.

8. When it boots up, it have astra... as channels. If you try to do a manual setup and search you will soon find out that thor is not in the list.

Tricky
9. Default ip is: 192.168.0.1, changeing this can be done in two ways:
9 a Hyperterminal

9.a.1 Press Ctrl + c - When the box is ready booted and shows Premiere4 in the display and the hyper terminal says [mgcamd] tps update started.
9.a.2 Then hit Enter to get into the console
9.a.3 Write: vi /config/network
9.a.3 The vi editor opens and you get this up:
IP=192.168.0.10
NETMASK=255.255.255.0
GATEWAY=192.168.0.1
DNS=194.44.212.13
If you ned to change press i
Use the arrows to navigate around and change the setting to your preferenses.
9.a.4 To save and get out from vi press Esc and :w press Enter and :q Enter.

9.b Change local ip on computer and use ftp.

9.b.1 On your windows computer go into Control panel,Nettwork connections.
9.b.2 Right clik your local connection, and choose Properties.
9.b.3 Mark Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and chose Properties on the right.
9.b.4 Mark that you would use manual ip. Use this settings:
IP-adress: 192.168.0.30
Subnett: 255.255.0
Gatway: levea it blank.
9.b.5. Hit OK twice.
9.b.6 Open up your favoritt ftp program and connect to 192.168.0.10
9.b.7 Open and edit the file /config/network to your preferenses.
9.b.8 Save the file back to Kathrein.
9.b.9 Remember to set your computer network settings back to dhcp

10. Use the remote to set Kathrein in off and on again.

11. Start SatChannelListEditor.

12. Go to Options, Settings.

13. Settings is: Receiver: UFS-910, Username: root, Password: (nothing, is different on different firmwares), Hostname: 192.168.1.20 (or what you have used), Local folder, a folder you would like to save your settings. Hit OK

14. Go to File, and chose the folder you unrared the settings file downloaded in preperation.

15. You now have a channel list, move the channels around after where you would like them, also edit the Favorites if you like.

16. Go to File and chose uppload via FTP, or hit the arrow upp.

17. Put the box in off and on again with the remote.

18. Go into Menu Language settings and chose your settings Exit go get back.

19. Go into Menu Settings, Antanna Configuration.

20. Set the lnb after your preferenses, arrows, OK, and exit to get back and save.

21. Use ftp (FilZilla) and go to 192.168.1.20

22. Edit the file /data/K**s/mg_cfg with a linux editor. (Textpad...)

U: { 05 }, G: { 01 } (or G: { 08 }), L: { 00 }

23. Copy your newcamd.list to /data/K**s folder.

Ekstra settings that can be nice is:
DEBUG_CWS = yes
SHOW_CWS_ECM = no
SHOW_CWS_EMM = no
CWS_CONNECT_TIMEOUT = 70
CWS_INCOMING_PORT = 12000
CWS_DEBUG_PORT = 12000
CWS_KEEPALIVE = yes

24. Press the recording button to restart mgcamd.
