Australian ISP iiNet to launch IPTV in March

Australian ISP iiNet has already started trialling its new IPTV service in the homes of a group of its own staff, and plans to sign up the first customers for the service in March, according to reports in Australian news website iTWire.

Michael Malone, CEO of iiNet, is quoted as saying that the first customers will be using the new service towards the end of next month adding that the company plans to start marketing the service to customers in the second quarter of this year.

The new service is expected to be delivered via a DTT-capable set-top box, and include linear channels, a video-on-demand library and some limited access to Internet content. The set-top box is reported to be a custom unit, produced by an unidentified manufacturer, and will also offer DVR functionality
