Black Broadcasting Network Inks Verizon VOD Deal
Urban-Targeted Network To Offer Entertainment, Sports VOD Programming
by R. Thomas Umstead -- Multichannel News, 12/22/2009 12:05:44 PM

The Black Broadcasting Network (BBN) has reached a agreement with Verizon FiOS TV for carriage of its video on demand service -- the first distribution deal for the upstart network.
The Houston-based service, which looks to target an urban 18-34 demographic, will offer a package of African-American and Latino-themed entertainment and variety programming as part of Verizon's VOD offerings, according to network executives. The independently-owned network also offers sports highlights from historically black universities and colleges as well as boxing events.
"We are excited about our affiliation with Verizon FiOS TV," says Attorney Ricky Anderson, Black Broadcasting Network's Chairman and CEO in a statement. "This day established our existence in Broadcast Cable. The Network will focus on programming that is appealing, interesting, entertaining and culturally relevant to urban viewers today."
